Rocky II is pretty good, I think. True to the characters and doesn’t indulge in cheap spectacle, and the plotline of Rocky being unable to handle his newfound fame is predictable but works well. Even Rocky’s win at the end is done in a way that doesn’t compromise his underdog status.
JoelJ I agree that, among the sequels, Rocky II holds on best to what’s good about Rocky. As I said in the episode, I might have to revisit Rocky Balboa some day, just to see if I judged it too harshly when I saw it years ago, but not before I see Creed.
