In the famous chapter “Rebellion” in Dostoevsky’s great novel The Brothers Karamazov, Ivan Karamazov does not offer logical proof that the universe does not admit of a divine creator; instead he rehearses the suffering of children in the world and says that, if God needs those children to suffer–even if only one must suffer–he’ll just hand it all back.  Thomas Jay Oord isn’t simply rehearsing Dostoevsky in his new book God Can’t, but you listeners should find some of his inquiries familiar, and Christian Humanist Profiles is glad to welcome Tom back on the show.
