In the summer of 2009, the then-editor of Front Porch Republic sent an email to Jason Peters telling him that there was no new content to publish on the website the next day. So was born the long-running column “The Bar Jester,” a series of short and humorous but perceptive essays in which Peters muses on food, culture, and anything else he’s interested in. More than a decade later, Front Porch Republic Books has collected fifty of the “Bar Jester” essays in the book The Culinary Plagiarist: (Mis)Adventures of a Lusty, Thieving, God-Fearing Gourmand.
